How to Transfer a Car Title in PA
When you sell a car in Pennsylvania you must go through a PA car title transfer. However, the state of Pennsylvania requires a notary title transfer, which means when you sign your title a notary must be present. Notarizing a car title in PA should be pretty easy though. All you have to do is make an appointment with a notary which can be found at your local bank or post office. Once you arrive with a valid ID, you pay a small fee and they will notarize the title after you sign it in their presence.
Where Do I Sign a Pennsylvania Title?
The title MUST BE NOTARIZED! Do not sign the title until you are in front of a Notary Public.
Sign the back of the title where it reads “Signature of Seller.”
Print your name on the back of the title where it is marked “Seller and/or Co-Seller Must Hand Print Name Here.”
Can I Sell a Car in Pennsylvania Without a Title?
Pennsylvania requires a title to sell a vehicle. If your title is lost, a duplicate title can be obtained from the BMV.
I am a notary public. Can I notarize motor vehicle paperwork?
Yes, you can. The notarial act required most often on motor vehicle forms is the verification on oath or affirmation. For example, the statements that must be notarized to transfer the title of a vehicle from one individual to another and to apply for a new title are both verifications. The customer must appear in person, be properly identified, swear or affirm that the statement he or she is signing is true, and sign the statement in your presence.
